STOURPORT Hockey Club’s women’s first team claimed an impressive 3-2 victory against Cambridge City 1sts.
The home side made a blistering start as Sophie Thompson and Lucy Walton both scored inside the opening five minutes to put Stourport in command.
And Stourport extended their lead early in the second quarter as Thompson doubled her tally for the game.
Cambridge set up a nervy finish after scoring twice in the second half to reduce the deficit to a single goal but Stourport held on to claim the points.
Elsewhere, Stourport men’s second XI endured a difficult double-header against Leek and Birmingham University respectively.
Stourport lost 4-1 against Leek 2nds as William Murray’s deflected strike briefly drew the home side level before visitors Leek ran away with the contest.
And Stourport then lost 4-0 against Birmingham University 5ths as a lack of cutting edge in front of goal allowed Birmingham to take command of the match.
Stourport men’s third XI lost 4-1 against Birmingham Kings 2nds with Munashe Nhongo on target for the visitors.
The club’s men’s fourth XI suffered a 6-1 defeat against West Bromwich 2nds despite a fine reverse stick strike from Rob Nicholls.
And the men’s over 55s side won 4-0 against Oxford Old Hawks in the Open Men’s Masters Over-55s Cup.
Goals from Tom White, Neil Farquharson, Tim Wood and Martin Oates sealed a comfortable victory for Stourport.
