CROWDS are expected to descend on Stourport tomorrow (Saturday, September 6) when the town’s annual Land and River Carnival takes place.
And this year, the event is set to be bigger and better than ever as it celebrates its centenary year.
The organisers promise a fantastic day out for all the family,
The event is boasting two river parades, a fun-filled land parade, entertainment throughout the day and a fantastic firework display to end the night.
Every year thousands of people line the streets of Stourport-on-Severn to watch the parade and soak-up the carnival spirit.
The popular extravaganza’s land parade will feature floats, marching bands and a variety of small vehicle and walking entries – something for everyone.
The Stourport Land Parade starts at 12.30pm and runs until 2.30pm.
The first river parade takes place at 4pm and the second at 8.30pm. That will be followed by the fireworks at 9.30pm.
Bandstand
The bandstand will play host to an array of live entertainment and activities throughout the afternoon.
At 2pm and 7pm there will be DJ music and at 3pm there will be the crowning ceremony of the carnival royalty, along with a prize-giving.
The entertainment will continue with Blind Lemon (3.30pm), the Rock Choir (4.30pm), Meg and Ben (5pm), Superfuz (6pm) and Fret Wolf (7.30pm).
Ahead of the centenary event, an appeal was made, including through the Standard, for former carnival queens to contact the organisers for a special celebration.
There was a tremendous turn-out of ex-Stourport Carnival royalty and some will be joining the organisers on The River King tomorrow – along with the newly-crowned Queen’s Court in the river parades.
Carnival royalty
This year’s Carnival Queen is Daisy Innes-Davies, 15, with Ani Hudson, 13, as the Princess and Morgan Lander, eight, as Rosebud.
The Senior Prince is Joshua Weaver, aged 11, and Riley Lander will be the Junior Prince, five.
A Stourport Carnival spokesperson issued a rallying call for as many people as possible to come and enjoy the event.
“Fingers crossed for a great day to raise as much money as possible for local organisations and charities.”
