150-home 'Lion Fields' plan for former Kidderminster leisure centre site set to be discussed by council

THE NEXT stage in a housing scheme being delivered in Kidderminster town centre is set to be discussed by Wyre Forest District Council’s Overview and Scrutiny committee next week.

At its meeting on Thursday, September 4, the committee will consider the plan for securing a joint venture partner to help deliver almost 150 new homes.

The properties on the Lion Fields site includes townhouses and apartments, across the former Glades Leisure Centre, Bromsgrove Street car park and Worcester Street sites.

Any recommendations will then be considered by the Cabinet at its meeting on September 16.

Coun Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet member for economic regeneration, planning and the green agenda, said: “The Lion Fields development will breathe new life into underused land and create a vibrant, high-quality urban neighbourhood.

“We’re committed to working with a developer who shares our vision for place-making and sustainable growth.

“We commissioned a feasibility study and now have a masterplan.

“We need a partner to work with us to deliver the scheme.”

He added this stage of the process was to agree the procurement procedure, adding companies would be invited to participate later in the autumn.

The council aims to appoint a development partner by mid-2026 and, when they are in place, a planning application can be worked up and submitted.

Works will start after planning permission has been secured – that process is expected to take several months after the appointment of the joint venture partner.

Both the overview and scrutiny and the cabinet meeting will be at 6pm and available to watch online on the council’s website.
