'Action needed on dangerous road in Kidderminster before more injuries and deaths'

Ryan Smith 5th Dec, 2025

CALLS have been made for urgent action to be taken to prevent anymore crashes on a road in Kidderminster before somebody gets seriously injured or killed.

Concerned Standard readers have been in touch after a crash on Bewdley Hill last week, with many raising concerns that this was the latest in a long line of incidents, some of which were much more serious.

Those living nearby have called for the speed on the road to be lowered, but Worcestershire County Council Highways bosses have instead encouraged people to get in touch with the police about any speeding concerns.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were called to the two-car crash on Bewdley Hill around 8.30pm on November 25.

The fire service made the scene safe before leaving around half an hour after arriving.

Police were also at the scene to manage the traffic.

The front of one of the cars involved in the crash was badly damaged sparking concern online for the driver’s welfare.

An ambulance was also deployed to care for the four people who were in the cars at the time of the crash, and fortunately they were all able to be discharged at the scene.

Following this lucky escape for those involved in the crash, people living nearby have been in touch calling for something to be done.

One said there had been three serious crashes there in recent years.

The man added that there had been two fatal crashes on the road.

And he said numerous people have been knocked over on that road and claimed a lollipop lady in her 90s had to leave her post due to speeding.

He expressed fears nothing would be done as people living nearby have already tried to get the speed lowered.

Following last week’s crash, Anthony Oliver said: “This crash is the second one this month, probably caused by the view partially obscured by the lime tree on the corner.

He added he knew the trees in the area had a preservation order on them but something needed to be done about the ones near to the Tesco garage ‘before someone else was seriously injured or killed’.

Others said there have been people speeding up and down the road and not giving way.

One said: “Drivers need to slow down and be more observant.”

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: “The speed limit along this stretch of road is currently 30 mph, in line with our policy for speed limits on A and B roads.

“We would encourage residents to contact police with any speed enforcement concerns for this road.”
