Barratt Homes' £1,500 donation to Severn Area Rescue Association

Kidderminster Editorial 15th Apr, 2026

BARRATT Homes donated £1,500 to Worcestershire search and rescue charity SARA, writes Chinaza Eke.

Severn Area Rescue Association [SARA] is a volunteer-run rescue team working in Severn Valley, providing rescue from flood water and welfare checks for residents.

The team protects people and property by supplying and maintaining a rescue service that has both water and mainland operations.

They also teach water safety across the area.

Richard Newhouse, flood rescue instructor for SARA, said everyone was grateful for the donation.

“In 2025, across our seven rescue stations, we attended 112 call-outs all tasked by the principal emergency services.

“A drysuit alone costs us £500 and they wear out after only a few years’ use, so these funds really will help us to maintain the service that our communities sometimes depend upon.

“We helped children and the general public become more ‘water aware’ and held internal and external training courses to make sure that emergencies are met with the correct preparedness.”

The donation was made as part of its Community Fund scheme through The Barratt Redrow Foundation which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year.

It was designed to support charities, large and small, across areas where the company operates.

It has committed £20million since its launch in 2021, supporting more than 2,000 charities and impacting around 100,000 young people each year.

Adrian Evans, Managing Director at Barratt Homes West Midlands, said: “We are proud to support SARA and its mission to support and protect local residents from natural disasters and accidents. “We hope the charity can continue to have a positive influence in the area.”
