Bewdley Brewery dark mild beer wins gold at 'Oscars of brewing'

BEWDLEY Brewery staff raised a glass to success once again as one of their beers scooped gold at an international competition considered the ‘Oscars of brewing’.

The brewery’s ‘William Mucklow’s Dark Mild’ brew won gold in the dark beer class four – alcohol by volume range 5.8 to 6.9 per cent category at the International Brewing and Cider Awards.

The medal announcement took place after three days of intense competition in Manchester last week.

The event is considered the most rigorous and renowned competition in the industry, after which 43 international judges name the best beers and ciders in the world.

The competition covers nine broad categories and 33 classes, with English breweries scooping 41 of the 79 gold, silver and bronze awards handed out on the day.

A spokesperson for Bewdley Brewery said: “We are so proud to have won gold at The International Brewing and Cider Awards.

“William Mucklow’s Dark Mild is becoming quite the award-winner.”

The International Brewing and Cider Awards was first run in 1888 and is generally considered to be the Oscars of brewing.

Organised every two years, the competition allows breweries from countries including Sweden, Cambodia, South Africa, Peru, Poland, Japan and Spain to have their beers judged by their peers.

This was not the first time ‘William Mucklow’s Dark Mild’ has won a top industry award this year – back in January, it was given top honours in the West Midlands and West Central Region Area of CAMRA’s (Campaign for Real Ale) Champion Beer of Britain competition.

It won in the ‘Brown, Red and Black Ales, Old Ales and Strong Milds’ category.
