A BIRMINGHAM man found in possession of a taser in Stourport on Friday has been jailed for six months.

Tom Ryan, 23, of Bromford Road, Birmingham pled guilty at Kidderminster Magistrates Court yesterday (Monday).

Ryan was arrested overnight between Friday night and Saturday morning in Stourport where he was found to be in possession of a conducted energy device.

He was charged on Sunday and appeared in court yesterday where he was sentenced to six months in prison, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154. The weapon was seized.

Det Insp Colin Berry, from north Worcestershire CID, said: “We are pleased to get this swift result and an immediate custodial sentence for Ryan.

“West Mercia Police will not tolerate weapons on our streets and will always take action to bring those who are in possession of them to justice which was the case here.

“We would also like to reassure residents this was an isolated incident and did not pose any wider risk to the public.”
