STOURPORT High School and Sixth Form College is celebrating after opening up a ‘vibrant’ new library.
It opened for the new term and follows an extensive refurbishment of the school’s central building. The works have seen investment in the new library, reading resources, and specialist staff.
As well as offering a place to read and hire out books for learning and entertainment, the library offers a redesigned classroom for collaborative learning and advice from the librarian.
These sessions are designed to help students secure their individual literacy goals while boosting confidence and motivation.
The look of the library has been designed to have a personal touch, with students deeply involved in the project from the start.
A grand official opening ceremony is being planned for later this year, with the school hoping to attract a local author or two to cut the ribbon.
Staff have said the library has quickly become the place to be before school, during break times, and after the final bell rings.
The whole school literacy lead, Peter Holland, said: “Reading is vital for academic outcomes, but it is also a cornerstone of wellbeing. The school has quite literally placed reading at its heart.
“We also have our very own wonderful librarian who can support pupils with selecting books and reading. There is nothing better than the enchantment of a fantasy or navigating a mystical land.
“Reading provides every child the foundation they need for lifelong learning and a better understanding of the world around them.”
