Changing of the chain - Tim becomes new Mayor of Stourport

Tristan Harris 23rd May, 2026

STOURPORT-ON-SEVERN now has a new mayor after Coun Tim Berry took up the chain of office from Coun John Thomas.

Coun Berry and his wife have lived in Stourport-on-Severn since 1995.

The new mayor is now retired, having worked for 25 years with NatWest bank, followed by five years in a software house and 15 years with the NHS.

Coun Berry previously had the honour of serving as mayor in 2022/23, and said he enjoyed the role immensely.

The new mayor said: “I bring to the position of mayor a wide range of skills and experience, gained throughout my career.”

He added, he was delighted to be the 2026/27 mayor, adding he was looking forward to the challenges ahead during this period of change in local government.

Coun Berry’s chosen charities for the year are Forest Dog Rescue, in Far Forest; and the Leapgate Activity Centre, in Stourport-on-Severn.

Forest Dog Rescue provides much-needed care and a safe haven to unwanted, abandoned and mistreated dogs from across the Midlands.

The Leapgate Activity Centre aims to provide educational and vocational training and support to adults with learning disabilities.

Stourport Town Council’s outgoing mayor, Coun Thomas, raised £3,350 for his chosen charities: Parkinson’s UK Midlands and KEMP Hospice.

A Stourport Town Council spokesperson said: “We hope the money raised will make a real difference to those who benefit from their invaluable support.”

The mayor has also held surgeries, giving residents the opportunity to raise concerns. Common themes included parking, antisocial behaviour and, of course, Stourport Carnival.

Feedback from those sessions has been shared with community partners.

Other highlights of Coun Thomas’ year in office included the Mayor’s Afternoon Tea, at Paisley at 108, and a curry night at Severn Tandoori, just a few weeks ago.

The town council spokesperson added: “We can’t forget other highlights from his year, including the much-loved Three Kings Parade and Christmas lights switch-on, as well as the many community events the mayor has attended, including the St George’s Day Parade in Kidderminster and judging StourJam’s Battle of the Bands Grand Finale.”
