Mayor of Bewdley, Coun Nicole Harper, writes for the Standard.
FEBRUARY concentrated on fundraising for my charities and supporting others.
The Holocaust Memorial events in Kidderminster and Worcester were a poignant reminder of the horrors of the Nazi regime and that hate still exists.
I was delighted to meet the SociAbles who provide a safe environment for young vulnerable adults. We celebrated Chinese New Year together, with lovely food and a Dragon dance.
I met the Bewdley Concert Band at one of their rehearsals and recommend joining this friendly and fun group to any local musicians. It was sad about the Bewdley Marching Band disappearing.

The monthly free concert at St Anne’s provided a showcase for two incredibly talented pianists (aged nine and 14) who performed an hour of great music and have agreed to join in my end of year concert on April 25.
The high spot was my Valentine ‘Dinner and Poetry’ event, attended by 54 people who all appeared to have fun and several joined in the readings.
It was a little like stand-up comedy as most of the poems were funny, with only a few serious ones interspersed.
The Mayors of Kidderminster and Worcester took their turn willingly and one contributor even led us into song.

The event was fun and made good money for my charities – two of which helped me considerably on the night.
I met the 11-year-old winner of our Nutcracker Trail Edward Ree who, being a train enthusiast, was delighted to win a year-long pass on the Severn Valley Railways.
I spent time with Wyre Forest Swimming Club, parents and swimmers and encourage you to support them.
The Euro-Dinner of the Bewdley Twinning Association provided us with free German and French food and an opportunity to discuss the future of twinning.

And finally, I really enjoyed the Bewdley Floral Art group event in aid of the students from The Bewdley School who are due to take part in two weeks of ecological research in Mexico later this year. The main joy of being so busy is meeting such lovely people.
Don’t forget my Fashion show on March 13. There are a few tickets left.
