THE FIRST play of the The Nonentities’ new season opens on Monday and runs until next Saturday, January 26 to 31.
One For the Road by Willy Russell is a wickedly observant comedy which explores the quiet desperation and simmering tensions beneath suburban respectability.
Set in a seemingly ordinary English neighbourhood, the story follows Dennis as he grapples with a looming midlife crisis, nosey neighbours and the relentless monotony of routine.

Reaching the breaking point on his landmark birthday party, he packs a rucksack to make his escape, but everyone wants to accompany him and he sinks down in front of the television, defeated.
Never mind – there’s always next year and the year after.
With biting wit and a keen eye for modern life absurdities, Russell explores how far people will go to preserve appearances, even as personal lives unravel.
The production follows on from The Nonentities’ successful staging of Educating Rita, also by Russell.
