A RALLYING call has been made for a community champion to help lead a £20million, decade-long programme to regenerate parts of Kidderminster.
The Pride in Place programme will benefit residents in Birchen Coppice, which also includes parts of Rifle Range, Foley Park and Silverwoods.
And now Wyre Forest District Council is looking for someone to chair a board which will improve the physical and social infrastructure of the town.
Cash for the ‘Pride in Place’ programme was announced by the government in September 2025.
The investment is to support the community to drive forward the changes they want to see in their neighbourhood.
An independent Chair will lead the Neighbourhood Board to co-produce the Pride in Place Plan, which will bring together residents, local businesses, community leaders and other organisations to decide how the funding will be used to best regenerate the community’s physical and social infrastructure.
The voluntary role cannot be filled by an elected representative.
The council is looking for a champion for the area with a deep connection to the local community, although they do not need prior experience for this kind of work. Click below to watch a video on the skills needed for the role.
‘Once-in-a-lifetime opportunity’
Coun Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, said: “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for you to make a lasting difference and create a real legacy within Birchen Coppice.
“This funding has the potential to transform lives in communities that will benefit most from investment and support.
“The right person will bring communities together, ensure every pound delivers maximum impact, and champion the voices of local residents.
“If you have the vision and dedication to make a real difference, we want to hear from you.”
Coun Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District Council leader, said: “It is excellent news that we’ve been awarded £20million from the Pride in Place Fund to regenerate this area.
“We want a really dynamic chair who understands the needs of this community and where the opportunity lies, but most importantly, that person needs to provide excellent leadership.
“If you’re that person, we want to hear from you.”
