PLANS to demolish a double garage and replace it with a takeaway have been withdrawn.
An application for the property on Bridge Road, Cookley, Kidderminster, to build a single-storey fast food unit was submitted to Wyre Forest District Council.
It was not specified in the planning application what kind of takeaway would have been.
Planning documents reveal the eatery would have comprised an open plan kitchen, kitchenette, toilets for the staff and an amenity area.
Plans also mentioned a space at the back of the takeaway for staff to store the bins away from the public using the service.
Documents added the plan detailed in the application had been designed to ensure an efficient operation, to minimise disruption to local residents, existing business and road users and to maintain high standards of safety and hygiene.
The application was met with backlash with 16 letters of objection submitted to the district council’s planning portal by members of the public.
One said: “This is a wholly inappropriate development for this location.
“The existing two takeaways, two pubs and two mini markets in the village centre already cause considerable traffic congestion at most times of day and evening on every day of the week.”
Another added: “The cumulative impact of increased traffic, insufficient parking and safety concerns makes this development unsuitable and potentially hazardous.”
Planning documents said to minimise disturbance, stock deliveries to the takeaway would have been restricted to 9am until 5pm on Monday to Saturday.
No reason has been given on the planning portal as to why the application was withdrawn.
