Demolition of Stourport building to make way for Aldi

Ryan Smith 16th May, 2026

DEMOLITION work on a Stourport road has been completed as part of plans to build a new Aldi in the town.

The building known as Minerva Point was demolished 14 months after Aldi was granted planning permission to build on the site.

New photos, provided by Drone Media, show that the demolition of the Minerva Point building has been completed.

It is thought that the new Aldi has the potential to generate up to 40 new jobs within the store, with around 35 positions being locally sourced and around a further 100 jobs during the construction phase.

The 1.4ha site on Worcester Road was built in 1998 as a manufacturing and warehouse facility with additional office accommodation.

The property was converted in 2005 to provide a business continuity call centre facility.

As well as the food store, start-up employment units will also be built on the site.

Planning documents, prepared by Aldi when the application was lodged back in 2022, said: “This development will deliver a high-quality exemplar development on an underused plot of land, which will bring about a substantial and material visual enhancement to the area as a whole.

“It is in an accessible, sustainable location that promotes alternative modes of transport, including public transport connections and is accessible by foot.

“This will see a significant immediate economic investment in Stourport-on-Severn at a time of longstanding economic uncertainty.”

A new internal roadway will be created with access to the car park and delivery yard off it.

Deliveries to the store will be via a separate entrance off the new access road to a delivery yard servicing the loading bay at the far end of the building.

This arrangement has been made to keep the delivery area as far as possible from existing houses and to reduce potential effects on local residents.
