Discover the history of Kidderminster's rivers and canals during 'walk and talk' event

Tristan Harris 14th Sep, 2025

A WALK and talk telling the story of Kidderminster’s river and canal network will take place at 10.30am on Saturday, September 20.

The event has been organised by Heritage Opportunities Group (HOGs) and Kidderminster Civic Society.

Local historians Mike Loftus and Dave Laverty will lead the stroll and shed light on the secrets of the river, the canal, the artesian water under the town, the reservoirs, the swimming baths and the water treatment. They will also talk about the time when there has been just too much water and led to Kidderminster’s streets flooding.

People should meet at the entrance to Carter’s Furniture on Tram Street, Kidderminster, at 10.15am, ready for the 10.30am start.

The organisers are excited that local poet and singer Heather Wastie and environmentalist Colin Maltby – who created ‘Bringing the Stour to Life’ – will be accompanying the group to highlight the town’s rich history.

Tickets are £10, available from John Beard, Ironmongers. Bridge Street.
