Dismay as this year's Wolverley Carnival is cancelled

Kidderminster Editorial 6th Feb, 2026

FESTIVAL lovers in Wyre Forest are bemoaning losing the ‘highlight of their year’ after the 2026 Wolverley Carnival was cancelled.

The Wolverley Carnival Committee has released a statement revealing that the much-loved event would not be taking place in 2026 due to a lack of volunteers.

But organisers have said they would like to see the carnival return next year and have called on supporters of the event to get involved.

Wolverley Carnival traditionally takes place on the first Saturday of July on the Memorial Hall field and attracts over 2,000 visitors.

All proceeds from the carnival are distributed among good causes in the village.

The statement from the carnival committee, posted on Facebook, said: “It is with great sadness that we have to let you know that Wolverley Carnival will not be taking place in 2026.

“This decision has not been made lightly.

“The carnival has always depended entirely on the time, energy, and goodwill of volunteers and, unfortunately, we no longer have enough people to safely and successfully organise the event.

“Wolverley Carnival has long been a highlight of the calendar, and we share your disappointment.

“We would very much like to see the carnival return in 2027 – therefore will be holding an open evening in September for new committee members to come along and understand what planning is involved to put on a fabulous day for all.

“For now, though, we felt it was important to be honest and clear with the community.

“Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

This announcement came just days after the group behind the Stourport Carnival revealed it was folding, throwing the future of that event into doubt.

Shocked carnival lovers took to social media to react to the news.

One said: “Are we seeing the beginning of the end of good, honest, family-oriented social gathering events?

“Both Stourport and Wolverley Carnivals are now cancelled.

“I wonder if this is just the start of the rot.”

Another added: “This is so sad.

“I really enjoyed being part of the carnival last year. Massive well done and thanks to all previous volunteers.”

And one regular said the carnival was the highlight of the year in Wolverley.
