WORK to revamp Kidderminster’s Brinton Park is taking shape, with drone footage being released of the new pavilion.
Work to construct a replacement Sons of Rest Pavilion was given the go-ahead by Wyre Forest District Council’s planning committee in September and work began on the construction the following month.
The official Brinton Park Facebook page has released drone footage which captures the latest progress. The foundations are now in place for the ornamental bridge and the new pavilion is taking shape.
The post on the Facebook page detailed ‘how beautifully the pool would nestle into the landscape, as the gently sloping sides helped create a calm, peaceful feel’.
The district council, custodian of the park, has commissioned contractor McPhillips (Wellington) Ltd to deliver the almost £3million improvement programme.
This has been made possible thanks to £2.4million of funding through The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Once completed, the new pavilion will reflect the heritage of the original one on the site and provide a light bright new community space.
That will feature a cafe and outside terrace overlooking the ornamental pool, which is now also under construction in the park.
Built in 1938, the original Sons of Rest pavilion had been damaged beyond repair by badgers living in the park.
They have now been successfully rehomed in a new artificial sett elsewhere within the park.
Over the next 12 months, the park will see significant visual and practical improvements.
These include refurbishment of the existing toilet block, footpath improvements and a new planting and landscaping scheme to add colour and refresh the flora and fauna of the park.
Coun Ian Hardiman, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Arts and Community Safety, said: “The new pavilion will provide a significant focal point in the park where people can meet for a coffee and a chat, as well as take part in a range of community-based activities organised and promoted by the council.”
