'Excited by town hall reopening' - Mayor of Kidderminster Doug Hine's diary

Kidderminster Editorial 1st Nov, 2025

HERE AT Kidderminster Town Council, we are very pleased and excited to see completion of the Town Hall refurbishment project and the grand reopening taking place this November.

There will be public open days and free performances and ‘flash’ events next Saturday and Sunday, November 8 and 9 – so, please, come and have a look for yourself.

Unfortunately, due to an issue with the supply of the stone, completion of the podium at the front is delayed, but inside is brilliant.

Several ‘soft’ opening events have already taken place, with many people attending and being impressed with the refurbished spaces, acoustics and facilities.

It’s been just under three years since the Town Hall was closed for refurbishment and work began to update the existing spaces.

Additionally, an impressive new space has been created: the Courtyard Cafe.

This airy area was once just a gap between two structures, used as parking for a few cars.

Now, it’s a bright, open cafe run in partnership with Savva Bars Co, featuring stylish contemporary decor, plenty of natural light, and comfortable seating.

The main hall, the Music Room has been redecorated, adding modern sound and lighting kit, and decent acoustics.

The historic organ, impeccably restored with National Heritage Lottery Funding, stands as a centrepiece – both visually stunning and a joy to listen to during concerts and events.

At the back of the building, the disused cells have been converted into a modern and spacious set of ‘green rooms’ for visiting artists, plus a kitchen area.

Together with loading access for tour vehicles via the Weavers Wharf goods yard, these new facilities make the Town Hall an attractive venue for top performers to use.

Please have a look at the website for ‘What’s On” at the Town Hall’ – there are a variety of events to suit a wide range of tastes and demographics.

More than 60 events have been confirmed, including local community performances, children’s events, comedy, music, family and spoken word genres.

Following the launch day, it will be great to have the Town Hall back online for public use and the Town Council back in their proper home.

A few events which I am personally looking forward to seeing in the next few months are – Santa in The Town (which I will be helping with), Fairport Convention, The Bohemians (Queen Tribute), Kidderminster Choral Society’s Young Voices and Primary Chords youth choirs, and Spiers and Boden.
