A CALL has been made to take action to prevent further ‘dangerous’ speeding on a Stourport road before an accident happens.
Concerns over speeding vehicles on Wilden Top Road have prompted residents to seek action from County Councillor Ian Cresswell.
Wilden Top Road, which connects rural and residential areas on the outskirts of Stourport, is used by a mix of local traffic and drivers seeking a quicker alternative route other than Wilden Lane.
However, people living along the stretch of road claim motorists frequently exceed what is considered safe.
Wilden Top Road currently has a speed limit of 60 miles per hour.
Coun Cresswell, who represents Mitton on the county council, said he has spoken with concerned residents and is working with highways officers to review available data and consider potential solutions.
He added: “Residents’ safety is paramount, and I take these concerns very seriously.
“Some residents I have spoken to have warned that it is only a matter of time before an accident occurs on Wilden Top Road.
“I will be liaising with Worcestershire Highways to look at speed surveys and what measures may be appropriate to address the issues being reported.
“I know this area very well and went to look personally.
“I understand that this road is 60mph, but it is used by people accessing Leap Gate Country Park, and there are a number of blind summits.
“I urge drivers who use the road to consider the impact on residents and pedestrians who live and use the road, and to drive responsibly.”
He added that any intervention would need to be based on evidence, such as traffic speeds and collision data, but encouraged residents to continue reporting incidents to help build a clear picture of the problem.
We contacted Worcestershire County Council for comment but were awaiting a reply when the Standard went to press.
