Fly-tipping costs prompts council plea to Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport residents

IT is costing tens of thousands of pounds a year in taxpayers’ money for fly-tipping to be dealt with in the Wyre Forest.

Wyre Forest District Council has revealed in 2024/25, it spent £62,886 clearing up dumped rubbish.

Now council chiefs are urging people to help reduce that figure and keep Kiddertminster, Bewdley and Stourport clean.

A spokesperson for the authority said: “Fly-tipping isn’t just ugly – it’s expensive.

“Across the country, clearing up illegally dumped rubbish costs more than £100million every year.”

And they added the £62,886 being spent in the district could have been invested in other areas the district council was responsible for, such as keeping our streets clean, maintaining beautiful parks and supporting local waste and recycling services.

“Every time rubbish is dumped illegally, it spoils the places we love and drains resources that could make Wyre Forest even better.

“Together, we can keep Wyre Forest clean, green, and a place we’re proud to call home.”
