Hilarious 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist' heading to Kidderminster's Rose Theatre

Tristan Harris 17th May, 2026

THERE will be plenty of fun and frolics at Kidderminster’s Rose Theatre when ‘Accidental Death of an Anarchist’ gets under way.

The Nonentities are attempting another trail-blazing play after the brilliant success of the Ballad of Maria Martin back in February.

Accidental Death of an Anarchist is a full-blooded adaptation from playwright Tom Basden of Dario Fo’s 1970s riotous satire.

The play opens tomorrow (Monday, May 18) and runs until Saturday, May 23, at The Rose Theatre, Kidderminster.

The story centres on the impressive fraudster known only as ‘the Maniac’ who is brought into police headquarters, just as the officers are preparing for a judicial review of the recent ‘accidental’ death of a suspect in custody.

Outwitting his captors, the Maniac dupes them into performing a farcical re-creation of the incident, exposing the absurd corruption and terrifying idiocy at the heart of the system.

Stories of police corruption continue to make the headlines – the play references Stephen Lawrence and Sarah Everard – and this adaptation is a furious but funny broadside against police malpractice.

TIME OUT described it as ‘wickedly funny…..nothing less than brilliant…the audience is constantly in stitches…..much cheaper than a therapy session and vastly more entertaining’.

If ‘Line of Duty’ is one of your favourite TV dramas, with the exposing of ‘bent coppers’ at its heart, then this is a play for you.
