The Severn Valley Railway has now closed while its volunteers set everything up for the festive season programme which begins on November 29.
There will be a variety of Christmas-themed events on the popular heritage railway.
Santa Steam Specials
Santa’s Steam Specials (Kidderminster) will enable visitors to travel in a private compartment or at a reserved table on a vintage steam train to Arley, for an all-new theatrical show: ‘The Great Christmas Train Rescue’.
Father Christmas himself takes centre stage in the live show but his magical steam train is in trouble and only Polly the polar bear and a pair of cheeky elves can save the day from the scheming villain, Victor Von Sneeze.
The event features dazzling puppetry by War Horse’s Matthew Forbes, toe-tapping tunes and heart-warming moments.
Children will receive presents on the train before it steams back to Kidderminster.
Relaxed Santa’s Steam Specials (Kidderminster) take place for those who would prefer an experience which brings down the volume, keeps lighting at a low level and offers a reduced capacity.
Dining delights
For foodies, the SVR’s Christmas season includes a first class festive dining experience on a vintage steam train, the Festive Bistro Express, flavour-packed Spice Train, the Enchanted Afternoon Tea and Evening Santa Pies.
Christmas Cracker Express
The Christmas Cracker Express (Kidderminster) offers a festive adventure for schools, nurseries and playgroups. Children can depart from the beautifully decorated Kidderminster Station with its twinkling lights and famous singing reindeer into a Christmas wonderland.
Winter Warmer Specials
And the Winter Warmer Specials go from Kidderminster to Highley with beautifully restored, steam-heated LNER ‘teak’ carriages – the same as the Flying Scotsman hauled during the SVR’s grand reopening.
Children can get creative with festive covering as they keep their eyes peeled for Father Christmas who will be making an appearance.
