TWO WOMEN from the same care home in Kidderminster have celebrated their 100th birthdays, writes Matteo Pirelli.

Joan Snowdon celebrated becoming a centenarian on September 8 and Doris Simkins toasted her marvellous milestone last Thursday (September 25).

Both women live at Foley Grange Care Home and have received birthday cards from Foley Grange and from local schools and neighbours.

She dedicated many years as a chemist and contributed to local groups such as the Women’s Guild and the Loyal Order of the Moose.

She has two children, Alison and John, and is a grandmother to their son Jacob.

Doris has enjoyed regular visits from family and friends, especially Wednesdays with Margaret, the mother of her son’s wife who brings her great joy and companionship.

Doris said: “Reaching 100 is a true blessing and I feel so grateful for the love and support from my family and friends.

“I’m proud of the life I’ve lived and the wonderful community around me here at Foley Grange.”

Joan was born in Holywell, North Wales, and after a successful career as an accountant, she enjoyed many memorable holidays with her late husband Denis.

Joan Snowdon celebrated her birthday with her family on September 8. s

She has a son called Mark who remains close to her family.

Joan said: “Turning 100 is a milestone I never imagined reaching.

“I’ve been lucky to share so many happy memories with my family, especially my son Mark.

“Celebrating here at Foley Grange with everyone makes this birthday even more special.”

Michael Pilgrim, the manager of Foley Grange which is operated by HC-One, said: “It is an absolute honour to celebrate not just one but two of our wonderful residents reaching the incredible milestone of 100 years.

“Their lives are an inspiration to us all and we feel privileged to help share their joy, stories, and wisdom.”
