JOG ON - Wyre Forest Police's 'running battle' to stop harassment against women

Tristan Harris 7th Apr, 2026

THE LATEST ‘Jog On’ operation to tackle inappropriate behaviour towards women who go out running has been held in Kidderminster.

The scheme involves female police officers in plain clothes running and, if and when they are subjected to harassment, such as catcalling, assault and sexually suggestive comments, they will call nearby crews to deal with the perpetrators.

The kind of unacceptable behaviour women face can often create a barrier to them going out running and therefore the physical and mental health benefits jogging boasts.

Last Thursday, when the operation was carried out, one driver was stopped on Stourport Road after sounding his horn at the female officer runners. Officers spoke to the motorist to educate him around harassment offences.

The operations have been held at different times of day and night and are designed to be varied and unpredictable.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: “Our message to perpetrators of street-based harassment is this: ‘your actions will not be tolerated’.

“For too long women have changed their behaviours to feel safe, but now the onus to change is on you.

“Misogynistic remarks and predatory behaviours are not acceptable within our communities.”

The force has encouraged women to report incidents of harassment and added officers continued to speak with runners to support them in being active bystanders to these behaviours.

Anyone who falls victim to catcalling, assault or sexually suggestive comments while running can visit: orlo.uk/NOn6M to report it online to West Mercia Police.

Alternatively, call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Anyone who feels they are in immediate danger should call 999.
