Kidderminster Asda's John praised for kind gesture to young mum

Tristan Harris 10th Mar, 2026

A MEMBER of security staff at Asda Kidderminster has been called a ‘total gentleman’ after a kind gesture.

John was given the title by a young mum after he paid for a taxi for her and her two young children so they did not have to walk two miles home in torrential rain.

She posted on the Kidderminster Matters Facebook group.

In her post, she said: “A post of appreciation for John the security guy at Asda for being an absolutely wonderful human.

“I was stressing about myself and two young children walking back in this horrible weather so much so that he booked and paid for a taxi to make sure we were safe and dry.

“If this reaches you, thank you sooo much again.”

The post yielded many comments with people describing John as ‘a brilliant man who always has a smile on his face’.

Another added: “Definitely echo this, genuinely a very pleasant and passionate individual.”

And another said: “He is wonderful. Always remembers a face and says hello.”

John said: “I’m a big soft bear, really. I did it as I’ve been there and had to walk miles in the rain.

“With what’s happening in the world right now it’s nice for people to do good things.”

Store manager Hannah said: “I’m incredibly proud of John for his act of kindness in paying for a customer to get her and her children home safe.

“This is just one example of how John goes above and beyond for all customers and colleagues.”

When the story was shared on the Asda Facebook page, it received almost 7,000 reactions, around 500 comments and more than 100 shares.

One person – Neil Neil – said: “There is always a human behind the uniform.”

And Sue Foskett said: “This bought tears to my eyes. Such a nice bloke to do something so lovely for a customer and her Kids.

“Nice people do exist. Well done to that member of staff and thank you for caring.”

Asda confirmed John had been rewarded through the supermarket company’s internal recognition scheme to cover the cost of the taxi fare plus a little extra to thank him for his kindness.
