A MUCH-LOVED cafe in Kidderminster’s Swan shopping centre, which found internet fame for its eating challenge, has closed due to ‘rising costs.’
Tilly’s Cafe, which has been open for the past two years, announced the decision to shut its doors last week and welcomed customers for the final time on Saturday.
The cafe shot to internet fame thanks to its ‘Tilly’s Breakfast Challenge’, which saw people tasked with eating 40 items of food- including six sausages, six eggs, and four black puddings- in 40 minutes.
Last February, famous YouTuber Leah Shutkever took on the challenge in a video that had 294,000 views.
A few months later, fellow YouTuber Beard Meats Food also took on the challenge, with that video getting 10million views on the social media channel.
A post on the Tilly’s Cafe social media page said: “We would like to thank you all for your support over the last two years. Unfortunately, due to the cost of living and rising costs, we have made a really hard decision to close Tilly’s for good.
“We really will miss every single one of our customers, especially our regular customers, as we have made some great friends.”
A second social media post added that Saturday was a happy but sad day for the team.
The post added: “Thank you to all of our customers for again supporting us today, for the chocolates, flowers, cards, and tips.
“We have been overwhelmed the last two days with the love and support.
“Thank you to all of our staff; without them, it wouldn’t have lasted as long as it has.”
Customers took to Facebook to react to the news.
One wrote: “So sorry to hear this sad news. Retail is so difficult for any small business.”
Another added: “This is going to be a big loss to Kidderminster town centre and the breakfast was to die for.”
