Kidderminster College leaders head back to University of Worcester to discuss future link-ups

Kidderminster Editorial 28th Oct, 2025

SENIOR leaders from Kidderminster College returned to the University of Worcester, where they studied, to check out the latest developments and discuss future collaboration in education across the county.

During their visit, they toured facilities, met with staff and learned more about the opportunities available to students preparing for higher education.

Cat Lewis, Kidderminster College principal, said: “We’re both graduates of Worcester.

“It has been great to revisit some familiar places from our time here and also to see the impressive development that’s taken place over the years.”

She said: “Seeing the Hive, the Art House, the Law School, the Medical School and the Arena, we’ve been able to see the amount of investment that has been made – not just in the University, but in the city.”

Claire Heywood, assistant principal of Kidderminster College, studied Education and Inclusion and then completed a Masters in Educational Leadership and Management at the University of Worcester.

She said: “I grew up not far from the university – it’s incredible to see how well it has emersed itself in the history of the city.”

She added: “One example is the former garage which is now being used to train paramedics, it’s an innovative and creative way to use an existing space.”

Many students make the transition between Kidderminster College, continuing their journey in fields spanning healthcare, humanities, the arts and more.

Cat, who studied for her undergraduate degree in psychology at Worcester, said: “As principal of Kidderminster College, I want to give our students every opportunity to progress, whether that’s to university or continuing their studies through Kidderminster College’s own higher education provision.

“We’re working closely with the Schools and Colleges Team at Worcester to ensure students have a clear understanding of the full range of opportunities available to them.

“There’s a phrase we love, which is: ‘you need to see it to be it’.

“That’s why we create opportunities for students to build confidence in their next steps, whether that’s through exploring university pathways like those at Worcester, industry engagement or meeting alumni.”

The university offers progression routes, particularly in areas like health and digital and, Cat added the college was proud to work in partnership to help students see what was possible – whether on their doorstep or beyond.
