A TEN-year-old child genius from Kidderminster is taking on the work usually given to college students as he takes on his AS Level in Maths.

Lezhi Xie (known as Timmy) attends Foley Park Primary Academy, is in year 5 and will once again be taking on a challenge far beyond his years- sitting his AS Level Maths examination.

This comes just under a year after ‘Timmy’, aged just nine at the time, achieved a Grade 9 in his GCSE- the highest possible mark.

Supported by his dedicated teachers and family, Timmy sat his first GCSE maths exam in 2024 at the age of eight, achieving an impressive grade 5.

While most pupils his age are focusing on primary school SATs preparation, Timmy has been studying advanced mathematical concepts typically tackled by sixth-form students aged 16 and above.

On the morning of his very first AS Level Maths exam, excitement erupted at the school gate as Timmy enthusiastically arrived at school shouting, “It’s exam day! It’s exam day.”

Timmy has been supported throughout his journey by his dedicated 1:1 tutor, Mr Harwood, who visits Foley Park twice each week to work with him.

Headteacher Soneeta Reynolds said: “We are incredibly proud of Timmy and the dedication he has shown. His passion for mathematics is inspiring, and he has approached this challenge with maturity, enthusiasm, and resilience.

“Timmy truly embodies our school values, and we are delighted to support him in reaching his full potential.

“Timmy is more than prepared for the exam – his understanding of mathematics is exceptional, and he approaches every challenge with determination and genuine enjoyment. He has worked incredibly hard.

“Despite studying at such an advanced level, he remains a valued and enthusiastic member of his Year 5 class.

”There was a real buzz in school as Timmy was getting ready to take on the challenge.

“The school community looks forward to celebrating his continued success in the future.

“His story is a wonderful reminder that with dedication, encouragement, and a love of learning, extraordinary things can happen at any age.

“His remarkable talent, determination, and love for Maths learning have made him an inspiration to staff and pupils alike.”
