A KIDDERMINSTER school has decided to close its sixth form after months of speculation.
Holy Trinity School has confirmed to the Standard it has made the ‘difficult decision’ to discontinue its sixth form following an education review and consultation.
The school’s Trust Board held a consultation between October and November 2025 on plans to discontinue the Sixth Form.
It was proposed that from the end of the 2025/26 academic year, no further post-16 students would be admitted to the School, although those currently studying would complete their courses.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the school said that while the school has continually reviewed and developed our offer, it has become increasingly challenging to provide the breadth of courses that students are seeking and deserve.
The spokesperson added: “For many years, we have been proud to offer an all-through educational journey, providing high-quality education from Reception through to Post-16.
“Our Sixth Form has supported generations of students in progressing to university, apprenticeships and employment through a predominantly academic curriculum.
“As the post-16 landscape has evolved, student interests and aspirations have increasingly shifted towards a wider range of vocational and technical pathways.
“Following careful consideration and consultation with students, parents, staff and the wider community, the Trust Board has taken the difficult decision to close the Sixth Form.
“This decision reflects our commitment to ensuring that all students can access the widest possible range of post-16 opportunities, enabling them to pursue pathways that best match their ambitions and future career goals.
“The school remains a popular and highly regarded choice for families across the local area and beyond, with strong demand for places in the Senior School.
“We are fully committed to supporting all students as they make their post-16 decisions and will continue to work closely with local colleges, sixth forms and training providers to ensure every young person is guided towards a destination where they can thrive and succeed.
“We are immensely proud of the achievements of our Sixth Form students over the years and grateful to the staff who have contributed to their success.
“As we look to the future, our focus remains firmly on providing an exceptional educational experience for all students and preparing them for successful and fulfilling futures.”
