KIDDERMINSTER Town Council is celebrating after Broadwater’s Mill Park retained its Green Flag, writes Charlotte Hall.
The award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy. The accolades recognise and reward well managed areas. And they set the benchmark standard for the management of green spaces around the UK and across the world.
Broadwater’s Mill Park is one of 2,391 in the UK to achieve the award this year.
The council said the accolade was a fantastic testament to the hard work, passion and dedication of the team. The authority cared for this green space, ensuring it was maintained to a high standard for visitors and residents.
Helen Dyke, chair of the services committee, said, “This achievement reflects the hard work of our operational services team, our volunteers and everyone who takes pride in caring for this wonderful park.
“Broardwater’s Mill is a community asset, providing safe, welcoming and beautiful green space for residents and visitors alike.
“We are committed to maintaining these high standards so that future generations can continue to enjoy everything the park has to offer.”
The Mayor of Kidderminster, Councillor Shazu Miah, raised the flag.
She said, “This is a fantastic achievement and one that we are incredibly proud of as a town council.
“Places like Broadwaters are at the heart of our community.
“It provides a space for all ages of people to enjoy, relax and connect with nature.
“Maintaining such a wonderful space takes teamwork and this recognition is a wonderful testament to everyone who plays a part in looking after it.”
Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag award manager at Keep Britain Tidy, said, “With public services under pressure, investing in parks is not a luxury, it’s a practical, preventative solution and one of the most visible ways to improve people’s quality of life.
“The operational services team at Kidderminster Town Council have shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed.
“As we celebrate 30 years of Green Flag Award, we want every community to have access to green spaces like this that are safe, welcoming and maintained to a high standard.
