LEVELLING UP - £17.9million Government funding sees three Kidderminster projects finished

Tristan Harris 14th Dec, 2025

THE OFFICIAL opening of Kidderminster Town Hall brings down the curtain on a Levelling Up project which saw Wyre Forest District Council receive £17.9million from the government for three transformational schemes.

A total of £8.5million was invested to bring the much-loved Town Hall back to life, opening a new chapter for arts, culture and entertainment in Kidderminster,

The Piano Building at Weavers Wharf – once a wool warehouse and education centre – has also been transformed into 29,000 sq ft of high-quality commercial space. The building will host businesses on the upper floors and food and drink establishments on the ground floor.

The third of the schemes, the first to be completed in 2023, brought improvements to the town’s canal towpath. The project created a 1.6km accessible walking and cycling route into the town centre, offering a greener, easier way to travel in the process.

Coun Marcus Hart, Wyre Forest District Council leader, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the beautiful restoration of the Town Hall delivered by Kidderminster Town Council and of all the regeneration work made possible through the Levelling Up Fund.”

Coun Dan Morehead, cabinet member for economic regeneration, planning and the green agenda, added: “These regeneration projects have taken time and commitment and it’s rewarding to see the opportunities they now offer for residents, businesses and visitors.

“We’re now looking ahead to taking forward our next major regeneration projects which are currently under discussion. They include the development of Lion Fields, improvements to Bewdley Museum, and the Bridge Street redevelopment in Stourport.”
