THE MAYOR of Kidderminster, Coun Doug Hine, paid a visit to Wyre Forest Food Bank at Franche Community Church.
Coun Hine met volunteers and found out more about the service which sends out 40 to 50 emergency food parcels to people in the district every week.
The foodbank was established in 2009, is managed by John Balcon and receives donations from supermarkets, churches, other organisations and individuals.
The Wyre Forest Food Bank works alongside the Kidderminster Foodbank which runs a walk-in hub and other charities in the district that offer support for those in need.
It aims, as a church-led organisation, to serve the local community by bringing the joy, hope and blessing of the Christian faith to everyone in Wyre Forest.
The foodbank responds, wherever possible, in a practical and caring manner to those asking for help.
Requests are only accepted via referrals from social or health support services, such as Citizens Advice, The Hub, Wyre Forest District Council and similar agencies.
The Wyre Forest Food Bank welcomes new volunteers for either deliveries or to help pack the emergency food parcels in the church hall.
Anyone who can help should email: [email protected] to register interest and for more information.
