A NEW life-saving bleed kit has been installed in Stourport as part of the community-wide safety scheme.
The kit was donated by housing provider Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (BDHT) which teamed up with West Mercia Police to install the equipment.
The campaign has been spearheaded by PC Mark Bennett from Stourport Police Safer Neighbourhood Team.
PC Bennett has been leading the call to install kits across the town after being inspired by ‘Daniel’s Story’ and The Daniel Baird Foundation.
The legacy was created in memory of 26-year-old Daniel, who tragically lost his life after being stabbed on a night out in Birmingham in 2017.
Since hearing Daniel’s story, PC Bennett has been encouraging local partners and businesses to donate the kits which provide essential medical equipment to stem heavy bleeding in the critical minutes before paramedics arrive.
The latest bleed kit is located at the entrance of the new housing development on Axminster Drive, off Severn Road, where BDHT will have a number of homes.
This location ensures both new residents and the wider community have access to emergency equipment.
Anne Hill, BDHT housing officer, said: “When we heard about PC Bennett’s mission to secure these bleed kits for Stourport, we knew BDHT had to be involved – they really could save a life if the worst should happen.“
The Axminster Drive development is right next to Stourport Tesco, making this the perfect central location to serve local residents and the community.
“It’s about more than just housing – it’s about providing the peace of mind that comes with having lifesaving tools within reach.
PC Mark Bennett, of the Stourport Safer Neighbourhood Team, added: “I am incredibly grateful to Anne and the team at BDHT for stepping up and donating this kit.
“Daniel Baird’s story shows us that minutes matter.
“My goal is to see these kits become as common as defibrillators in Stourport and across the country.
“It’s through the generosity of partners like BDHT we can make our streets safer for everyone.”
The bleed kits contain specialised trauma dressings, gauze and chest seals.
They are designed for use by any member of the public with 999 operators able to provide instructions and access codes in an emergency.
