A NEW Nandos is set to open in Kidderminster’s Riverside Walk later this year.
The deal is subject to Nando’s signing a lease with the development owner Wyre Forest District Council.
Two applications have been lodged by Nando’s Chickenland Ltd to Wyre Forest District Council- the first for shopfront alterations, details of external seating, and consent to display advertisement, and trhe second asking for permission to installation a mechanical restaurant plant.
The site on Exchange Street was previously a Bistrot Pierre.
Planning documents show the chain wants to add two new windows, a single entrance door, and to add low-lying black matt tiles, but largely retains the existing shop front.
Alterations would also be made to the outdoor seating, with five metal planter boxes set to be installed as well as a metal and timber screen with integrated planters, and an additional timber olive tree planter.
An access hatch is proposed on the left-hand side of the shopfront to enable efficient takeaway collections by Deliveroo drivers.
The planning application also asks that a ‘Nando’s’ fascia sign, which would be internally lit up using red LEDs, be fixed to the shopfront, as well as a white menu.
Both applications are currently pending consideration by the district council.
Coun Marcus Hart, Leader of Wyre Forest District Council, said: “We’re pleased that Nando’s has chosen Kidderminster as part of their national expansion plans.
“Nando’s is an important addition to our vision of creating a destination town centre that draws people in throughout the day and into the evening.
“This complements recent developments like The Piano Building opposite Riverside Walk, which offers high-quality office and food & beverage space and Kidderminster Town Hall, which has re-opened late last year after a multi-million-pound transformation project into a state-of-the-art performance venue.”
Coun Dan Morehead, Wyre Forest District Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, Planning and the Green Agenda, added: “We welcome the Nando’s team and wish them every success in Kidderminster.
“Nando’s at the Riverside Walk will significantly add to the choices for residents and visitors to meet up and have a great time in town with its car parks and other attractions.”
