A KIDDERMINSTER discount store has closed less than three months after moving into a new venue.
Newey’s Deals, at the Swan Shopping Centre, shut its doors for the final time on Friday, April 24.
In a statement on social media, the owners cited a lack of footfall and business rates being too high.
Newey’s Deals first opened on Worcester Street in March last year.
It marketed itself as trying to bring the best deals possible to people in Kidfderminster for items such as food, drink, snacks, sweets, vapes, bedding and household goods.
Earlier this year, the shop announced it would be moving to a bigger venue in the Swan Shopping Centre after ‘outgrowing’ its previous site.
A grand opening for the new venue was held on February 5 but, on April 19, the owners announced the venue would be closing its doors.
A statement on Facebook said: “I just want to say a massive thank you to all of you who have supported me over the time we have been in Kidderminster.
“It’s been fantastic, thank you all.”
People took to social media to express their sadness and frustration at the news.
One said: “I loved coming over to Kidderminster just for your shop.
“I am so sad to see it go – all the best for whatever your plans are next.”
Another customer added: “This is very sad, my daughter absolutely loves your shop, as do I.”
And another described news of the closure as ‘horrible’, adding: “The country is pricing great shops like yourselves out of business. So sad.”
Business rates are set by central government.
