KIDDERMINSTER Harriers fans have been reassured there is no immediate threat to football at the club’s stadium as a mooted sale progresses.
At a meeting of Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet last month, the authority discussed the disposal of its freehold interests in Aggborough Sports Ground, the car park and sports and social club to Kidderminster Harriers.
Following the meeting, representatives from Kidderminster Harriers Independent Supporters Trust met with the council leader, Councillor Marcus Hart, Ostap Paparega, Deputy Chief Executive, and Faye Parrett, Head of Commercial Services, to discuss the future of Aggborough Stadium and the freehold sale process.
Supporters had previously expressed concerns that, without legally binding protections, the site would be vulnerable to redevelopment pressures that risk displacing the club.
Back in January, they called for any sale to include robust covenants to guarantee the stadium and surrounding land remain protected for football use for generations to come.
A spokesperson for the supporters’ trust said the discussion with the council was constructive and positive.
The spokesperson added: “During the meeting, Council Leader, Councillor Marcus Hart, indicated that the district council will seek to include appropriate covenants as part ofany future freehold sale, with the intention of safeguarding the site’s use as the home of Kidderminster Harriers Football Club.
“Council representatives listened carefully to the concerns the trust has raised and acknowledged the importance of the club’s continued presence at Aggborough.
“Based on the information shared with us, we are reassured that there is no immediate threat to football at Aggborough.
“While any long-term proposals may take time to develop, we will continue to monitor the situation closely and remain ready to respond on behalf of our members and the wider fan base.
“We would like to place on record our thanks to Councillor Marcus Hart for the open and constructive way in which the Council is approaching this process.”
Aggborough Stadium has been the home of Kidderminster Harriers since 1886.
Kidderminster Harriers is looking to use the stadium purchase as a way to create a modern, welcoming hub that seeks to build a strong connection between the club, its fans and the local community.
