PICTURE SPECIAL - Crowds wowed at Music of Bewdley concert

CROWDS attended The Step Into The Music of Bewdley concert which took place at the town’s St Anne’s Church last Saturday.

Mayor of Bewdley councillor Nicole Harper welcomed everyone to an event celebrating musical talent in the town.

It was the mayor’s last official occasion during her year of office and was held to raise funds for her chosen charities. They include The Rob Poysor Fund for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), The William Mills Foundation and The Emily Jordan Foundation.

The event was opened by local singing group Berkeley Square, with their rousing rendition of Lullaby of Broadway.

Next up were three highly talented young performers who demonstrated their virtuosity.

Among them were Carys Read on the piano, who performed Clair de lune, by Debussy and Chopin’s Valse op 64 Number 1; and Tymoteusz   Kaczmarek, who performed Sonata Number 6 in Major Op 10, Number 2, by Beethoven, and I  Got  Rhythm, by George Gershwin.

Next up was Luke Pender, with music by Scarlatti, and then St Anne’s Primary School Choir, who performed two songs.

Felizity Shelley was presented with the poetry prize for the 12- to 16-year-old age group in the Bewdley Festival poetry competition. The second half opened with Bewdley duo Beatlesque, who performed a medley of Beatles songs.

And the grand finale was The Story of Bewdley, by Jim Ineson, with the Bewdley Choir, who were joined by Berkeley Square and the St Anne’s School choir.
