PICTURE SPECIAL - Kidderminster has new history-making Mayor

Tristan Harris 14th May, 2026

KIDDERMINSTER has a new mayor after Coun Shazu Miah was elected at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday.

The annual Mayor Making was held at Kidderminster Town Hall and saw Coun Miah take over the chain from Coun Doug Hine who has held the role for the past 12 months.

Coun Miah will be supported throughout his term by his wife, Farjana Khan, who will serve as Mayoress.

Coun Miah, of Bangladeshi origin, is the first ethnic minority Mayor of Kidderminster Town Council, marking a significant milestone for diversity and inclusion in the community and the town’s civic history.

During his speech at Tuesday’s meeting, he shared his journey and expressed his thanks to all guests for listening and attending the special evening.

He also thanked the outgoing Mayor, Coun Hine and his wife, Ros, for their fantastic service to the town and the community during his year as Mayor.

During his mayoral year, Coun Miah will be raising funds for two chosen charities.

One of them – the Kidderminster and District Youth Trust – works to empower and support young people in the town to help them reach their full potential.

The other – H.E.L.P – is a local charity in Kidderminster which supports the homeless and people in need within Wyre Forest district.
