CROWDS flocked to Kidderminster’s biggest ever free music festival which took place from last Friday to Sunday.

The event was organised by Kidderminster BID and has been hailed a great success.

James Barker, from Kidderminster BID, told the Standard: “We honestly couldn’t have asked for more.

“From start to finish the town was buzzing, the music was everywhere, and the turnout was even better than we hoped for.

“All the bars and restaurants had a really positive weekend.”

The event peaked at 4,700 tickets and, the organisers said data showed many had ventured to the festival from other areas, including 700 from Redditch and 900 from Birmingham.

“It was good to see the external spend and the fact the festival brought in visitors from outside the area and boosted tourism.”

He thanked Mark from Fab Food Festivals, Steve Carrigan from Carrigan Events and Luiz Ferreira from Livewire.

“They all helped turn it from a dream into reality. “Also thank you to all the traders who had stalls and everyone who came along and supported the festival.”

The event ran over three days for the first time with more than 30 acts across six buzzing venues.

Among them were top British rapper and 2014 I’m a Celebrity contestant Tinchy Stryder, along with Sweet Female Attitude and Michelle Platnum.

And, Mr Barker said: “I can’t believe how far we’ve come from that one-night festival to three days.

“And we need to grow it even further.”

The next event to be organised by Kidderminster BID for the town is the Oktoberfest – tickets are free but must be booked.

It takes place on October 25 at the newly refurbished Weaving Sheds at the old Magistrates Court, with live band performances, a family fun afternoon, and an adults-only evening to finish off the day.
