Plans for housing on demolished Kidderminster St Oswald Church site

Kidderminster Editorial 16th Oct, 2025 Updated: 16th Oct, 2025

PLANS have been mooted to build housing on the site of a demolished church in Kidderminster.

And residents will now be able to have their say on the plans, which could see the site of the former Kidderminster St Oswald Church used for housing.

The Church of England commissioners have drafted a proposal to explain how the site on Broadwaters Drive might be used.

If agreed, the Worcester Diocesan Board of Finance will be able to dispose of the site.

In order for any development to be greenlit, planning permission would be needed from Wyre Forest District Council.

Initial plans show the development could see three apartment blocks consisting of nine apartments.

Each apartment would be either one or two bedrooms and there would also be parking spaces and landscaping.

The vehicle and pedestrian access which currently exists from Broadwaters Drive would be kept and rights of access to the adjacent Scout Hut would also be kept.

History of the site

In 1962, the land for the church of Kidderminster St Oswald was conveyed from the Borough of Kidderminster, which is now the Wyre Forest District Council.

The church was blighted with structural issues and was demolished in 1981.

The adjacent unlisted church hall has served as the meeting place for worship since then but, in 2021, it was decided it should also be closed.

People are now able to give their views and can make a representation for or against any aspect of the draft scheme.

Those who want to have their say will have until October 30 to send any feedback to the Church of England.

After the deadline, any representations against the draft scheme will be shared with the Bishop, who will then provide feedback.

There are three former church sites in the Diocese of Worcester the Church of England has released draft proposals for so they can be brought back into use.

The other two are Pershore St Andrew and St Paul and Old St Martin with St Swithin in Worcester.
