POLICE and the town council are cracking down after a spate of vandalism in public toilets in Bewdley.
At the recent Bewdley Town Council Meeting, PCSO Jeni Bray raised her concerns on the vandalism and anti-social behaviour with councillors.
Last week, the local police team were made aware people had caused deliberate damage and a general mess of the male public toilets on Load Street, Bewdley.
The most recent case saw floor and wall tiles smashed in the gents’ toilets.
The edging strip of the wall tiles was also removed and used as a plunging rod to ram toilet paper into a toilet to create a flood.
As well as addressing councillors at the meeting, the police visited the council office and the incidents were reported to them.
There will now be increased patrols in the area in the short-term to monitor activity.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: “This type of behaviour is unacceptable as it not only causes an inconvenience but costs a significant amount to repair.
“If you see anyone causing a nuisance or damage in this toilet block, please report it to the police on 101 or 999 if it’s a crime in progress.”
Witnesses or anyone with information on the vandalism can email: [email protected] if they can help with the investigation.
At the meeting, PCSO Bray also informed councillors patrols had been carried out at local parks during school holidays and after school.
She said no incidents of anti-social behaviour were spotted during the patrols, but it was noted the recent wet weather may have deterred people from using the parks.
Extra patrols have also taken place in Bewdley town centre to address issues with anti-social behaviour and alcohol consumption.
