THIS ELECTRIC bike was seized by police in Kidderminster town centre on Sunday after it was being ridden at speed on Weavers Wharf.
On closer examination, the motor on the bike was found to be more powerful than legislation allows.
Rules on electric bikes – and how powerful they can be – are strict.
The law states riders must be 14 or over to use an ‘electronically assisted pedal cycle’ (EAPC).
The bike must also have pedals on it to propel it and the electric motor must have a continuous rated power output of no more that 250watts.
Electric bikes can be ridden on cycle paths or areas where pedal bikes are allowed – they cannot be ridden on the pavement.
