Police warn drivers in Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport over parking text scam

Tristan Harris 5th Sep, 2025

RESIDENTS in Kidderminster, Bewdley and Stourport are being warned to be on their guard after reports of a fake parking text scam.

Wyre Forest Police is aware of the messages being sent to people, claiming they have a Parking Charge Notice (PCN) and trying to con them into parting with cash.

Officers want people to know the messages are not genuine.

West Mercia Police does not issue ‘Parking Charge Notices’ only ‘Penalty Charge Notices’ and these will never be sent by text message.

Genuine parking fines are only ever issued in two ways – either by placing the ticket on the vehicle’s windscreen or sending it out by post.

If people receive a suspicious text they should not click on any links or reply to the message. They should, instead, delete it from their phone.

Anyone unsure about a notice they have received about a Penalty Charge Notice can call the police’s operational serving team by dialing 01562 732928 and then selecting option 3.

West Mercia Police said: “Your safety and security are very important to us – thank you for staying alert and helping stop these scams.”
