REMEMBRANCE - Eye-catching poppy displays inside and outside Kidderminster's St Mary's Church

Tristan Harris 4th Nov, 2025

THIS EYE-CATCHING poppy display of one at two at Kidderminster’s St Mary and All Saints Church in Kidderminster.

These poppies outside the church were all made by a member of the congregation. It came after an appeal went out for plastic bottle bottoms which were painted to form a weatherproof poppy.

Inside the church

And, swathes of more than 4,000 poppies, which have been knitted, crocheted or made of felt are adorning the church, including the historic building’s magnificent high altar.

All of those poppies were created by a dozen women from the congregation.

A group of parishioners together put the poppies out as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by those who served and continue to serve in armed conflicts worldwide.

The poppies can be viewed from 10.30am to 12pm on Saturday, November 8. The church will be open and tea, coffee and cakes will be available.

Remembrance Sunday

A Remembrance Sunday service will be held on Sunday, November 9. This will begin outside the church at the Angel of Peace at 10.50am and continue inside.

And there will be a Remembrance Observance outside at the War Memorial on Armistice Day (Tuesday, November 11). This will start at 11.50am.

After that, the church will be open for quiet reflection along with tea and coffee.

A church spokesperson said: “All are welcome to any or all of these events and view the poppy displays in this beautiful historic building.”
