Royal Marines open Kidderminster branch for first time since 1990s

THE ROYAL Marine Association (RMA) has a Kidderminster branch for the first time in around 30 years after an official launch event last week.

On Friday, February 20, membership director Phil Gilby supported the official opening of RMA Kidderminster at an event at St George’s Social Club.

The event doubled as an open evening where those who wanted to join had the chance to see what the branch had to offer.

The evening included a special moment as he presented the original Standard back to the branch, following its closure in the 1990s.

The Kidderminster branch aims to offer comradeship and a friendly face with local knowledge.

Members include former and serving Royal Marines and former members of other Armed Forces.

The monthly meetings look to provide a space to offer emotional, social and practical support to members and their families.

A spokesperson for RMA said: “The launch event was a fantastic example of elements of the entire Corps family coming together to re-establish a friendly and welcoming branch community.

“Whether you’re just starting out, serving full-time or with the Reserves, preparing for civilian life or already there, belonging to the Royal Marines Association locally keeps you at the very heart of the Royal Marines Family and the opportunity to meet old friends and make new.”

Those who attended the open evening said it was an excellent presentation of the RMA and was ‘so inspiring.’

The next meeting of the RMA Kidderminster branch will take place between 7.30pm and 9.30pm on Friday, March 13, at the St George’s Social Club.
