Severn Valley Railway gets 'resilience' Visit Worcestershire Award

Kidderminster Editorial 31st Mar, 2026

STAFF and volunteers at the Severn Valley Railway are celebrating after being recognised for its outstanding resilience at the Visit Worcestershire Awards for Tourism, writes Chinaza Eke.

Judges created the accolade to shine a light on a business that has demonstrated exceptional strength, adaptability and commitment during challenging times.

The ceremony was held at the Three Counties Showground and, on presenting the award, the judges praised the SVR’s determination to overcome adversity, its creativity for finding new ways forward and its unwavering passion for serving visitors and local communities.

The SVR was also praised for its role in Worcestershire’s cultural landscape and its ability to navigate significant pressures while remaining focused on its long-term future.

And judges recognised the heritage railway’s efforts to innovate, protect and celebrate a much-loved part of the county’s heritage whilst committing to building a sustainable and inspiring future.

Lewis Maddox, SVR’s visitor engagement manager, said: “It is a hugely appreciated recognition of the grit and determination shown by our staff and volunteers.

“From lasting impact of Covid-19 to rising operating costs, and the devastating landslip that closed the northern section of the line for six months, it has not been an easy journey.

But throughout it all, we’ve kept going, driven by our passion for this remarkable heritage railway and the joy it brings to so many people.

“This award belongs to everyone who has supported the SVR and who believes in what we do.”

The SVR is looking ahead to a season of galas and special events, continually helping visitors by freezing fares.
