Severn Valley Railway looking for volunteers to train as chefs

Kidderminster Editorial 8th Apr, 2026

THE SEVERN Valley Railway is looking for volunteers to join its catering team to help serve up freshly prepared food and support the heritage line’s outlets, writes Andres De Miguel.

The SVR’s award-winning heritage line takes visitors through restored original stations, local towns and villages and 16 miles of Worcestershire and Shropshire countryside on heritage diesel locomotives and original steam trains dating back to the 1930s.

No prior catering experience is required as full training and support will be provided.

The SVR also offers opportunities to work towards qualifications in food hygiene and allergen awareness, with additional training available for aspiring cooks.

Nicky Freeman, the SVR’s visitor experience manager, said catering volunteers were at the heart of the visitor experience.

“They bring energy, personality and real team spirit to everything they do. You don’t need a background in hospitality – just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and love of working with people.

“Volunteering with us is about much more than serving food It’s about being part of a supportive team, and sharing in the pride of keeping this wonderful railway thriving.”
