THE BENEFICIARIES of last year’s Stourport Carnival have been chosen with each of the causes receiving £1,300.
Organisers of the popular event – which celebrated its centenary last year – have made their decision after receiving almost 50 applications from fantastic groups across the area.
After much deliberation, they selected six local organisations.
They are Stourport Cricket Club, Muddy Boots, Young Glove Karate, the 16 Wyre Forest (St Michaels) Scout Group, Youth Direxions – Stourport Youth Club and The Civic Group.
The organisers of the carnival have already been in touch with the chosen organisations.
They thanked everyone who got in touch for the incredible work they do, adding: “We wish we could have supported every single one of you, but the sheer volume of high-quality applications made for some very tough choices.
“To those we couldn’t donate to – please know that we see and deeply appreciate the hard work and effort you put into the Stourport community.”
The Stourport Carnival Society announced in January it was disbanding and unable to continue to run the event due to a lack of members.
It said, as it announced the beneficiaries of last year’s event: “As we close our doors, we want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years.
“It has been an honour to serve this town and help celebrate the spirit of Stourport. From all of us: thank you for the memories. Over and out.”
We reported last month that Stourport Town Council was planning to step in to save the much-loved event. The authority issued a plea for volunteers and the appeal is ongoing.
