A STOURPORT man is among three people handed driving bans for car cruising after videos showed the group driving recklessly.
Benjamin Fisher, aged 22, of Stourport-on-Severn, was seen on one of the videos performing ‘doughnuts’ (spinning the car around in a circular skid) in Halesfield in Telford
He appeared in court alongside Oskars Gleizups, aged 25, of St Davids Close in Malinslee, Telford, and Luke Mills, aged 19, of Pool Hill Road in Telford.
Mills was also captured performing doughnuts while Gleizups undertook dangerous stunts near Minsterley before speeding off.
Following an investigation between roads policing officers and safer neighbourhood teams, the drivers were identified and sent a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). They were later charged with dangerous driving.
The trio pleaded guilty to the charges at Telford Magistrates Court.
All three were handed a 12-month driving disqualification, a four-month curfew between 7pm and 5am, and were ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work.
Sgt Matt Corfield, from Telford’s Safer Neighbour Team, said the results sent out a very clear message that dangerous driving and car cruising activity will not be tolerated in Telford or anywhere across Shropshire.
“The behaviour shown in these videos was reckless, illegal and put members of the public at real risk.
“The driving bans, curfews and unpaid work handed down by magistrates reflect the seriousness of their actions.”
The convictions and sentences were brought about as part of Operation Chicane – West Mercia Police’s ongoing campaign to tackle antisocial and dangerous driving.
Sgt Corfield said the force would continue its crackdown on dangerous drivers to keep the area’s roads safe.
And he urged anyone who witnessed anti-social driving, illegal car racing or dangerous behaviour on roads in West Mercia to report incidents to police by calling 101 or, if it was taking place and endangering the public, to report it on 999.
