THE OWNER of a Stourport shop has been fined £45,000 for employing an illegal worker.

Arish Mohammedi, who owns the Stourport Mini Market on Minster Road, was named in the latest ‘ Illegal working civil penalties for UK’ document released by the Home Office.

It details the businesses which are employing staff who have no legal right to remain in the UK.

The employer is liable to check the status of all their workers to ensure they are permitted to live and work in the UK.

The penalty stated – in this case £45,000 – comes following all appeal rights being exhausted.

The maximum penalties for employing illegal workers are five years in jail or an unlimited fine.

Employers are urged to check their workers’ status to check they have permission to remain in the UK, check that permission is in date and has not expired, the types of work they are permitted to do and that their papers are genuine.
